A neuropsychological evaluation assesses all aspects of cognitive functioning, so things like attention, memory, and organization. Emotional health is also investigated, in conjunction with a full medical history to better understand and help guide next steps in health care management.

At Loomis Neuropsychology, Dr. Loomis provides the neuropsychological intake, testing, and feedback. Dr. Loomis is a licensed provider from the state of Minnesota, United States with PSYPACT privileges.

Neuropsychological evaluations can be provided by licensed neuropsychologists, psychologists, or psychiatrists who have specialized training in this area. These professionals often work in hospitals, clinics, private practices, or academic settings.

A neuropsychological evaluation is specialized and focuses on understanding how brain function affects behavior and cognition. It involves assessing cognitive abilities like memory, attention, problem-solving, and language through standardized tests. Neuropsychologists often use these evaluations to diagnose conditions like traumatic brain injuries (TBIs), dementia, and learning disorders.

A psychological evaluation, on the other hand, is broader and assesses mental health, emotions, and behavior. It includes interviews, questionnaires, and possibly psychological tests to diagnose and treat conditions like anxiety, depression, and personality disorders.

In short:

  • Neuropsychological Evaluation: Focuses on brain function and cognitive abilities.
  • Psychological Evaluation: Broader focus on mental health, emotions, and behavior.

A psychological evaluation can be provided by licensed psychologists or clinical social workers who are trained in psychological assessment. These professionals work in various settings, such as:

  • Hospitals and Clinics: Medical centers often have mental health departments.
  • Private Practices: Individual or group practices specializing in mental health.
  • Schools: School psychologists perform evaluations for educational purposes.

Yes. While we cannot test the child in their immersion language, we can learn about their level of cognitive, emotional, and academic functioning, collect information from their teacher about their academic skills compared to peers, and work to highlight strengths and weaknesses. We will make diagnoses when appropriate and rule out other contributing factors that might cause learning difficulties.

Much of the time, we can draw conclusions about whether your child has a learning difference and, either way, we can make recommendations.

No. However, this works to your advantage for many reasons:

  • We can do more: International services, no preauthorization or referral needed, and we can choose the tests we believe are necessary, such as academics.
  • It may be helpful to know that insurance often does not pay for a neuropsychological evaluation if another has been conducted within the past year. We believe you have the right to seek a second opinion.
  • It may also be helpful to know that insurance does not typically cover ADHD testing, giftedness evaluations, or the assessment of learning disorders.
  • You can be seen sooner and receive feedback faster.
  • You manage your information: You can decide who has access to your medical information.

A superbill is an itemized receipt provided by healthcare providers for services rendered. It is used primarily for out-of-network healthcare billing. Here's a breakdown of what it typically includes:

  • Patient Information: Name, address, phone number, date of birth, and insurance details.
  • Provider Information: Name, NPI number, office location, and contact details.
  • Visit Information: Date of service, procedure codes (CPT), diagnosis codes (ICD-10), and fees charged.
